It's hard enough getting a tee time at a muni, let alone beat Tiger.
SportsCenter recently aired a unique segment called "Tiger Trap." In summary, Tiger Woods surprised a handful of unsuspecting foursomes on a public golf course. Woods asked them to play closest-to-the-pin on a par three hole. Then, when the foursomes completed the hole, Tiger revealed that the person who was closest had won a new Buick Rainier SUV. (You knew there'd be an advertising tie-in, right?).
Just imagine the thrill of walking up to a par three on a municipal course and seeing Tiger Woods eager to play closest-to-the-pin with you. That's like going into a karaoke bar to sing "A Whole New World" and Regina Belle walks in to belt it out by your side.
Or something like that.
The "Tiger Trap" concept is refreshing and completely original. Hmmm. That sounds like a recipe sure to be duplicated and beaten into the ground, because that's what television networks do best: They rip off ideas from each other faster than you can say, "American Juniors." In fact, once a successful new idea comes across your screen, TV execs start throwing more lame pitches than Detroit skipper Alan Trammell sees in a Tigers' intra-squad scrimmage.
Hopefully, we won't have to suffer through too many wide-of-the-zone curve balls in the form of mediocre "Tiger Trap" knock-offs. But there are some ideas currently in the pre-production stage that, unfortunately, will probably get some airtime.
For example ...
Starring Athlete: Anna Kournikova

Wow! Front row tickets to the Nets. These must have cost about $10.
Starring Athlete: Jason Kidd
Name of bit: "Kidd-N-Play"
Summary: Kidd surprises a group of men playing pick-up at the local YMCA. He lowers the rim to 8 feet and throws lob passes to each player. The person who throws down the best dunk wins.
What they win: The right to use Joumana Kidd's courtside seat for one game while bouncing T.J. on your lap -- lil' dude is a camera magnet!
Starring Athlete: Jaromir Jagr
Name of bit: "Jagr-meister"
Summary: Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis forces Jagr to travel to the other 29 NHL cities and conduct press conferences stating that he really wants to play for each city's team. The city that gives Jagr the loudest ovation at the press conference wins.
What they win: Jaromir's services for the 2003-04 season ... as well as a year's supply of Jagermeister to help keep the taste of his gaudy contract and diminished skills out of their mouths.
Starring Athlete: Terrell Owens
Name of bit: "A T.O. for Terrell"
Summary: Owens unexpectedly appears at McCovey Cove in a kayak. He tells the other ball-fetchers the first one to grab a home run ball out of the water wins the grand prize.
What they win: The winner is entitled to watch Owens -- the Andy Kaufman of professional sports -- be forced to spend 10 minutes of quiet time in a corner away from the other kids.

The only thing Clemens has in common with Boston fans is this image makes them both sick.
Starring Athlete: Mike Tyson
Name of bit: "Bust the Mike"
Summary: Tyson interrupts a couple of drunken brawlers beating the crap out of each other outside a tavern. He gives each guy one shot to knock him out with a single punch.
What they win: The person who kayos Tyson receives an autograph from Mike when he recovers. (Hey, that's all those jokers in the Brooklyn hotel wanted in the first place.)
Starring Athlete: Roger Clemens
Name of bit: "Fueling the Rocket"
Summary: Clemens interrupts a high school debate team's meeting and asks each student to deliver a 60-second impromptu commentary on the following topic: Reasons why Roger Clemens should be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Yankee.
What they win: The student who delivers the most convincing argument wins an all-inclusive trip with Clemens' family to Palm Springs in 2008 when Roger boycotts the Hall of Fame ceremony because he's being inducted wearing a Red Sox cap.
