Here we are at the midway point of the NFL season, and the Sports Guy needs to make a move soon to catch the Sports Dog.

Bill vs. Bailey
Seems like everybody thinks they can handicap NFL games, so Page 2 has decided to turn to its two experts in the field of prognostication. Each week we'll have Page 2 columnist Bill Simmons, the Sports Guy, go head-to-head with Bailey the Sports Dog.

Simmons is a die-hard Boston sports nut who represents the common fan.

Bailey is a Samoyed husky-black Labrador cross with a nose for pigskin. He's lived in Colorado, Chicago and Seattle while loyally following college and pro football for the past 14 years.

Each week, Bill and Bailey will select their four best choices against the spread. We'll also keep a running score throughout the season.

Simmons will use his extensive football knowledge, the Internet and key newspapers to come up with his can't-miss picks. Bailey will choose between two dog treats representing teams in each matchup.

Of course, these are only predictions and not recommendations for wagering.
Bailey the Sports Dog can smell the playoffs -- if there were such a thing for pigskin prognosticators -- or at least more treats if he keeps up his winning pace.

Meanwhile, Sports Guy Bill Simmons is in Las Vegas covering the Hasim Rahman-Lennox Lewis bout, so we wish him well this week so he doesn't take it on the old sports pocketbook.

On to their Week 10 picks:

Bill Simmons' Week 10 NFL predictions
Season record: 15-20-1; last week: 1-2-1
Tennessee at Cincinnati
Bengals (a reliable home team) giving just 2 points at home ... that Monday night debacle (the almost-win) drove a Dracula-like stake in the Titans. Put a fork in them.
-- The pick: Bengals 20, Titans 10

Cleveland at Baltimore
Browns getting 8 points in Baltimore ... they always seem to play teams close, don't they?
-- The pick: Ravens 16 Browns 13 (Cleveland covers)

St. Louis at New England
Pats getting 8 points at home, cold weather, grass, Sunday night TV ... all the makings for the inevitable Kurt Warner concussion!
-- The pick: Patriots 28, Rams 27

New York Giants at Minnesota
Vikes giving 2 points at home Monday night ... Jim Fassel keeps trying to put his chips on the table and none of the Giants are ante-ing in.
-- The pick: Vikings 30, Giants 7

Bailey's Week 10 NFL predictions
Season record: 21-14-1; last week: 2-1-1
(As told to Jim Wilkie, editor for Page 2.)

Tennessee at Cincinnati
Them Titans are done like dinner. I'll take the Bengals and the 2 points.
-- The pick: Bengals 27, Titans 23

New York Jets at Miami
The fish have been good to me all year, so I'll take the Dolphins minus 6 points.
-- The pick: Dolphins 33, Jets 20

Chicago at Tampa Bay
After falling back to Earth, the Bears will bounce back as they take 5 points into Tampa.
-- The pick: Bears 23, Buccaneers 19

New York Giants at Minnesota
Hard to tell which is the underdog among these underachievers, but I'll still take the Vikings minus 2 points at home.
-- The pick: Vikings 24, Giants 14
