Baseball's best beef

Page 2 staff

Is your favorite baseball team looking to add that one missing piece for the stretch run? Is your team already out of it and looking to dump some salary as it builds for the future?

Chuck Knoblauch
It's no secret the Yankees have been shopping Chuck Knoblauch.
Either way, you've come to the right place.

Page 2 is opening up its Meat Market, where baseball fans can get together and talk about potential swaps.

Here's how it works:

  • Each week, Page 2 will open up its mailbag and take "classified ads" from fans who have something to offer in trade.

  • Then, we'll run those ads on our Meat Market page, allowing other fans to peruse the listings.

  • We'll also pull out two "featured ads" and take e-mail offers from fans looking to deal for the featured players. Finally, we'll put all those offers together and run a poll asking our users to pick the best offer.

Check out these sample ads, and then go to the bottom of the page to send us your ad.

CLASSIFIED ADS: MLB TRADING THROUGH JUNE 31
MARINERS FAN will part with young LHP in exchange for reliable hitter who can play LF or 3B. You get John Halama, a 29-year-old who won a combined 25 games in 1999-2000 and pitched well against Yanks in 2000 ALCS. Plus, he did throw a perfect game this year! Willing to trade for anyone hitting over .270 with more than 12 HRs.
METS FAN willing to give up Hall-of-Fame fielding SS for any of the following: an OF with power (lefty preferred), a middle reliever (lefty preferred) or a pitching prospect. You get Rey Ordonez, who's a wizard with leather but couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag. Actually, willing to trade for anyone who can walk, as long as you agree to pay off the rest of his (absurd) contract.
YANKEES FAN willing to give up OF who's perfect for the top of any team's batting order. Chuck Knoblauch comes complete with a good eye, good legs and a bat that was potent in the past. He has had some slight throwing difficulties, but those are long behind him. Looking for a set-up man for the bullpen or a power hitter in return.
