| Here are your responses to last week's Page 2 Power Poll:
It's about time for the Northsiders, the Cubs are riding high, surging with a confidence unseen for many years (decades). We Northsiders are smelling World Series, and nothing less will appease us, so may pigs fly happily, and all in hell enjoy the skiing. Collin Chicago I can't believe your Power Poll. I look forward to reading it, but you have to give the Cubs some credit. Nearly every time the poll comes out, you feel they have peaked and are in decline. They have the second best record in baseball. They are leading their division by five games. Not to mention the fact, they are 15 games over .500. I know there are a few problems. They need to add at least one big bat. They also have to learn to win in St. Louis. In the meantime, cut them some slack they are a good baseball team that is surprising everyone. Especially you people who refuse to acknowledge their presence. Jon Chicago The Cubs' mo' is going down you say? No chance. It's officially a new century (last year was not it) and the Cubs' curse is over. You hear me? Over. As for the Red Sox ... who cares? John W. Siegel Greenwood If all you media fools don't stop jynxing the Red Sox, I'll bust your hip! Ben Boston Being a lifetime Reds fan I have no problem booing them right now. They stink. Also, if Griffey plays in the All-Star Game I may consider dropping them altogether and finally put the Diamondbacks at the top of my list where they probably should be anyhow. Todd Wills Scottsdale, Ariz. You guys just don't get it, do you? The Yanks are chasing the Bosox, or should I say the chokesox, d'uh! As long as the teams are within two to four games of each other in September, it'll be decided in the games then, not in the summer. Oliver New York I disagree with the opinion of the Yankees going downhill. They have shown that they can pick up a player or two to cover weak points on the team that year. Once again the Yankees will make the playoffs and all teams will have to fear the dominant team of the late 1990s and the soon to be early 2000s. Mike Lakewood, Colo. I'm a die-hard soccer fan and was pleased to see U.S. men's team get honorable mention in the Power Poll. But you erred by leaving Mexico's men's soccer team out of the "weaklings." Lost five in row. Coach just quit. They were a "world power" just a few years ago. Brian Kurtz Chicago Again, the Texas Rangers are not on the weakling list? You guys (and gals?) are just not paying attention. With their gigantic payroll, they're 27½ games back of Seattle on June 21 -- after they bought Seattle's best player! When was the last time any team was 27½ games back this early in the year? How can the Reds make the weakling list (who can with some validity blame injuries for their woes), and not the Rangers? Gazoo Dallas Next week, Kentucky basketball has to make the mo' -- Tayshaun Prince and Keith Bogans coming back to play (as they should have) are meaning big hopes in the Bluegrass. Mark Peoria, Ill. The Miami Hurricanes dominated College World Series play. They pounded a very good Tennessee club 21-13 and another very good Stanford club 12-1 to win it all again! They went undefeated in CWS play. Very impressive feats. I believe they deserve to break the top 10 at least. David Diaz Miami |
