| Here are your responses to last week's Page 2 Power Poll:
The Ducks beat a ranked team Wisconsin, who they have never beat in three tries and who will beat your climber in Fresno State this weekend, and they get dogged by ESPN.com because they play in the same state as the lowly Beavs. You guys are all about the bandwagon, so I am sure the Ducks will be back on your climbers list and you will be apologizing to Ducks fans everywhere for doubting them and tying them to the Beavers' loss.
Please don't lump the Oregon Ducks in with the pathetic Beavers. Winning is not new to the Ducks. Florida is the best football state, but come on, Florida beat suspension-plagued Marshall at home; Miami beat horrible Penn State; and FSU beat Duke, not at b-ball but football. Not exactly tough openers. Oregon is the only Top 10 team to open with a Top 25 opponent. It wasn't pretty, but we won. Harrington threw for 278 yards, 3 TDs and ran for the game-winner. He's moved up to No. 2 in ESPN.com's Heisman projections. Maybe next year? Tell that to the Beavers, not the Ducks.Eric Luebbers New York So, the Florida Delusion continues. Who did they play? Any ranked teams? No? Who then? Duke? Duke doesn't play football, remember. Marshall and a dilapidated Penn State team as the other fodder. At least Oregon played a No. 23. Fresno State fans chanted "overrated" to the OSU team. Maybe; but until a few real games are played they should've been piping that chorus to the entire state of Florida.Geo Callis Redmond, Wash. Hey! At least we don't have a member of the Bush Crime Family as governor! Gary Frazier Eugene, Ore. I think that someone will be eating crow by the end of the college football season. Yes, Oregon State got humiliated, but let's be honest, they lost half of their starters. I wouldn't have included them in any of my preseason polls. Yes, the Oregon-Wisonsin game was a close one, but I think that Wisconsin is better then its No. 23 ranking. For years Pac-10 teams have fought for some national attention; now all the national media wants to do is tear them down. So who will eat crow? SI for picking Oregon State, Page 2 Power Poll writers for not giving Oregon or Wisconsin the respect, and media writers who are already calling for the tar and feathering of the Oregon program. RubberDucky Eugene, Ore.
I really don't understand how you could have the Oregon football teams as your weaklings of the week. Oregon won, and did just what they did to become famous, win close, gutty ballgames. Oregon State lost, but last year they beat Eastern Washington by two points early on and you know what happened by the end of the year. Nate Spencer Portland, Ore.
I have for years been a loyal Oregon State fan and have always been subjected to how all Oregon colleges are nowhere close to as good as the East Coast schools. Now I have had enough. Oregon schools have been belittled for so long and now that they are starting to get competitive with the East Coast teams it sounds to me like all you East Coast "prediction makers and football gods" are looking at any reason to knock the West Coast schools if it's not UCLA or USC. Take my word for it ... the West Coast is going to prove you all wrong ... it's here to stay! Barry Snow Portland, Ore. The fact that you lump the Oregon Ducks in with the OSU Beavers shows that you didn't even watch the games. Oregon beat Wisconsin; the only Top 10 team that opened with a ranked opponent. If only we could play Duke, Marshall, Rutgers, UAB, or UL-Monroe to open our season. That would be a challenge. As I'm sure you get a discount, order ESPN Gameplan and pay attention. Until then, the Ducks will continue to do what we do best: win football games against quality opponents. See you next year, we're not going anywhere. Eric Luebbers New York Michael Schumacher the best driver ever? Please. In an interview last year before the U.S. Grand Prix he said, "I would never race the Indy 500. It's too dangerous." Anyone who wants to be considered the best driver of all-time should not be afraid of anything. He's a $120 million cupcake. Until he gets over this fear of IMS, he's got no business being considered the greatest. Gordo Muncie, Ind. Can we get a vote for Dan Duquette, the most loathed man in Boston sports? It used to be Jeremy Jacobs (see Hated Owners poll), but Dan has pulled head and shoulders above the rest. First, he fires a manager who was 12 games over .500, despite not ever having his three best players on the field together, because the team needed a spark, even though they had lost six of seven to the Mariners and A's, arguably the two best teams in the American League. Then, he compounds it by hiring a rookie manager and then fires the pitching coach the same night that David Cone and Mike Mussina pitch one of the greatest games of the year on national TV. Now, he's at risk of alienating Nomar and Pedro. Is this man nuts, or just stupid? Rick Mahoney Mansfield, Mass.
Hey! What was wrong with "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back?!" Dave Golbitz Omaha, Neb.
Who the heck was the bimbo that put the Cowboys in the bottom five (also receiving votes). They haven't even played a game yet. I might be biased but I think they gotta good crack at the playoffs. |
