100 GREATEST SUPER BOWL MOMENTS
25
Super Ball to Super Bowl
Super Bowl III: Originally dubbed the "AFL-NFL Championship Game," Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt coined the term "Super Bowl" one day when he came across his daughter's "Super Ball." The named stuck by Super Bowl III.
24
Jackie Smith's dropped touchdown
Jackie Smith

Super Bowl XIII: Dallas' 38-year-old backup tight end Jackie Smith, wide open in the middle of the end zone, drops a certain TD pass during the third quarter of the Cowboys' 35-31 loss to the Steelers. Dallas settles for a field goal in a game it loses by four points.
23
Garo's goof
Super Bowl VII: Dolphins' kicker Garo Yepremian tries to play quarterback after a botched FG attempt with 2:07 left and Miami leading Washington 14-0. As he tries to pass, the ball slips out of his hands and the Redskins' Mike Bass returns it for a TD. The Dolphins hold on, however, to complete their 17-0 season.
22
The goal-line stand
Super Bowl XVI: The 49ers lead the Bengals 20-7 late in third period when a goal-line stand led by Dan Bunz -- he makes a great tackle on a swing pass to Charles Alexander on third down -- shuts down the Bengals four times inside the 3-yard line. Proves vital when 49ers win 26-21.
21
O'Donnell's awful pass
Larry Brown

Super Bowl XXX: Cowboys cornerback Larry Brown intercepts Neil O'Donnell -- there was no Steeler receiver even near the ball -- with four minutes remaining and returns the ball 33 yards to the 6-yard line, setting up the clinching TD in Dallas' 27-17 win over Pittsburgh.
20
McNair's scramble
Super Bowl XXXIV: The final play of the dramatic Titans-Rams game (see moment No. 2) is set up by the previous play: Titans QB Steve McNair scrambles around, breaks through the sack attempts of several Rams defenders, and hits Kevin Dyson with a 16-yard completion to the 10-yard line.
19
The Fridge scores
The Fridge

Super Bowl XX: Walter Payton doesn't get the ball, but rookie "fullback" William (Refrigerator) Perry does -- and busts through for a 1-yard TD run in the Bears' dominating blowout of the Patriots.
18
The legend goes off
Lombardi

Super Bowl II: The Packers carry Vince Lombardi off the field after he wins his final game as Packers coach.

17
Whitney Houston's tearful anthem
Super Bowl XXV: Whitney Houston's stirring national anthem in Tampa -- as the Gulf War goes on -- brings tears to millions. Who cares if it was pre-recorded?
16
The first touchdown
Super Bowl I: Max McGee makes a spectacular one-handed grab and finishes off a 37-yard pass from Bart Starr for the first TD in Super Bowl history. McGee, who caught only four passes all season, goes on to catch seven for 138 yards and two TDs in Green Bay's 35-10 win over Kansas City.

15
"60 slot hook and go"
John Stallworth

Super Bowl XIV The play hadn't worked all week in practice. But trailing 19-17 early in the fourth quarter, the Steelers' Terry Bradshaw connects with John Stallworth on a 73-yard TD pass, beating the outstretched hands of the Rams' Rod Perry.
14
Under coveraged
Super Bowl XXXIII: The Falcons' Eugene Robinson, who was given the "Bart Starr Award" the morning before the Super Bowl for his "high moral character," is arrested and charged later that night for soliciting an undercover police officer for oral sex. Robinson goes on to have an awful game (see moment No. 66).
13
Lambert vs. Harris
Super Bowl X: After Pittsburgh's Roy Gerela misses a field goal, Dallas' Cliff Harris mockingly pats Gerela on the helmet. The Steelers' Jack Lambert then throws Harris to the turf. Although threatened with expulsion, Lambert stays in the game. Trailing 10-7 at the time, the Steelers go on to win 21-17.
12
Desmond's dramatic dash
Super Bowl XXXI: After New England scores late in the third quarter to cut its deficit to 27-21, Green Bay's Desmond Howard returns the kickoff 99 yards for the final score of the Packers' 35-21 win.
11
All hustle
Lett & Beebe
Super Bowl XXVII: Leon Lett is about to give Dallas a 59-17 lead over Buffalo with a long fumble return, when Don Beebe comes out of nowhere to knock the ball out of the showboating Lett's hands just he crosses the goal line.
