BROOKLYN, Mich. -- Regan Smith, the 2008 Sprint Cup rookie of the year, has agreed in principle to drive the No. 78 car for Furniture Row Racing in 2010, sources close to the situation said on Saturday.
Smith is driving a part-time schedule for the Colorado-based team this season, but tentative plans are to run a full schedule next year.
Smith was left without a fulltime ride after his Dale Earnhardt Inc. team was shut down due to lack of sponsorship following 2008. He has competed in 11 races this season for Furniture Row, with a top finish of 12th at the July 4 race at Daytona.
He is best known for going below the yellow line at Talladega to beat Tony Stewart last season, only to have NASCAR take the win away because a driver can't go below the line to advance his position.
