Peterhansel takes seventh stage of Dakar Rally

ATAR, Mauritania -- Stephane Peterhansel of France won for
the second time in the Dakar Rally, taking the seventh stage Friday
in the grueling road race.

Fellow Frenchman Luc Alphand was second, 4 minutes, 23 seconds
behind, and claimed the overall lead with a time of 22 hours, 32
minutes, 41 seconds. He is followed by Peterhansel, 3 minutes,12
seconds behind.

Peterhansel, who also won the fifth stage, was timed Friday in
5:52:18.

The race covers 5,619 miles on a route through 40 countries from
Lisbon, Portugal, to the Senegalese capital of Dakar.
