Report: Tracy breaks shoulder in golf-cart mishap

Paul Tracy may have to miss the season's final Champ Car race after an alcohol-fueled joyride on a golf cart went awry near Las Vegas.

Tracy, who's sitting fifth in the series standings, broke his right shoulder blade Oct. 28 when the cart landed on top of him after he tried to jump a sand dune.

"Sorry to say it was self-inflicted," Tracy told the Toronto Star. "I was at a party and had a little too much to drink, and we thought it was a good idea to go out on a golf cart and try and jump some sand dunes with it."

Tracy was scheduled to race Sunday in the Gran Premio de Mexico in Mexico City.

"Like I say," the Toronto driver told the newspaper, "it sounded like a good idea at the time, but it didn't pan out that way."

Tracy, who lives in Las Vegas, was the 2003 Champ Car World Series champion and is the circuit's leader among active drivers in wins (30) and poles (25).
