Top DL Massey chooses Michigan




Nationally rated defensive lineman Pat Massey of Cleveland-St. Ignatius, Ohio, has committed to Michigan, giving the Wolverines another huge boost towards the nation's top football recruiting class.

Massey also considered Notre Dame, Ohio State, Boston College and Indiana, among many others. His brother, Jim, is an offensive lineman at Ohio State and his father played at Notre Dame.

Receiver Braylon Edwards of Harper Woods-Bishop Gallagher, Mich., has also committed to Michigan after considering Michigan State, Vanderbilt, California, Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin and Central Michigan. His father, Stanley, played for the Wolverines.

Michigan leads the conference commitment lists with 19 verbals. Nine Wolverine pledges are considered Top 150 prospects.

Top running back Ty Eriks of Seattle-O'Dea, Wash., will play for the Washington Huskies (six verbals) over Stanford, UCLA, Nebraska and Notre Dame, among others.

Class 2001 has 442 players already committed, including 55 of the UPDATED Top 150 prospects.

Big 12:
Kansas State gained linebacker Matt Butler of Manhattan, Kan.

Oklahoma (six verbals) has a pledge from defensive lineman Jacob Hager of Perry, Okla., who also had interest in Oklahoma State and Tulsa.

The Iowa State Cyclones (three verbals) have commitments from defensive back Daron Starks of Miami-Jackson, Fla., and running back T.J. Klith of Cedar Rapids-Prairie, Ia.

Pac-10:
California has reported commitments from linebacker Jaylon DeBruin of Hilmer, Calif., over Oregon State; and defensive lineman Josh Pukini of Bellflower-St. John Bosco, Calif., over Stanford, Oregon, Washington State and Fresno State.

Big Ten
Michigan State pledged tight end/defensive lineman Jason Randall of Muskegon, Mich., over interest from Michigan, Indiana and Ohio State.

SEC:
LSU (seven verbals) pledged receiver/defensive back Travis Daniels of Hollywood-South Broward, Fla. Daniels, who caught 40 passes for 748 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior, also considered North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Arkansas (four verbals) has a reported commitment from defensive back Delenell Reid of Coffeyville CC, Kan., over Kansas State. Top 100 running back Cedric Houston of Clarendon, Ark., has reconsidered his early commitment to the Razorbacks and is now listing the Razorbacks, Michigan State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Nebraska and Miami (Fla.).

Florida (three verbals) pledged offensive lineman Jonathan Marvin of Henderson-West Henderson, N.C., over offers from Tennessee, North Carolina State and Duke. His father, Mickey, played for the Vols and NFL Oakland.

Offensive lineman Michael Allen, who signed with Iowa in Class 2000, but did not qualify, is expected to enroll at Mississippi (three verbals) next spring, according to officials at Northwest Mississippi CC, Miss.

Linebacker Travis Williams of Columbia-Spring Valley, S.C., picked Auburn (six verbals).

Big East:
Virginia Tech has added defensive back/running back D.J. Walton of Dumfries-Hylton, Va., over Virginia, Wake Forest and Penn State.

Pittsburgh (11 verbals) has a pledge from linebacker Tyre Young of Pittsburgh-Woodland Hills, Pa.

C-USA:
East Carolina (seven verbals) has a pledge from quarterback Delton Woodard of Columbia-Spring Valley, S.C.
