Former Kentucky Mr. Basketball picks Wildcats

Outstanding guard Antwain Barbour of Elizabethtown, Ky./Wabash Valley CC, Ill., considered the nation's top junior college shooting prospect, has committed to Kentucky over Cincinnati, Indiana and UNLV. Barbour helped lead Wabash to the 2001 National JC Championship and was named tournament MVP. As a senior, he was named tournament MVP as Elizabethtown won the 2000 State Sweet 16 and later honored as Kentucky's Mr. Basketball 2000.

The Maryland Terrapins have a commitment from Top 100 forward Travis Garrison of Hyattsville-DeMatha Catholic, Md., over Michigan, Charlotte, Notre Dame and Miami (Fla.). Coach Gary Williams has commitments from four Top 100 prospects: Garrison, John Gilchrist, Nik Caner-Medley and Chris McCray.

Wisconsin has a pledge from Top 100 guard Maurice (Boo) Wade of Milwaukee-Vincent, Wis., over Oklahoma.

Seton Hall has a commitment from Top 100 forward J.R. Morris of Milwaukee-Washington, Wis./Creedmoor-Christian Faith Center, N.C. Morris had earlier committed to Illinois.

Early Class 2002 Top 100: Seventy-three of the prospects have already verballed. The early signing period is Nov. 14-21.

Early Class 2002 Rankings: Duke leads the Top 25 Classes.

Colorado gained guard Jason Obazuaye of San Jose-Andrew Hill, Calif., over Santa Clara and California.

Forward Monte Minter of Mt. Ulla-West Rowan, N.C., who averaged 20 points and 13 rebounds as a junior, picked Appalachian State.

Eastern Kentucky gained guard Matt Witt of Tipp City-Bethel Local, Ohio.

UC-Santa Barbara has a verbal from guard/forward Josh Davis of Sacramento-Elk Grove, Calif.

Forward Robert Strickland of Chatham-Hargrave MA, Va., picked Marshall.

The father of Top 100 swingman Rashad Anderson of Lakeland-Kathleen, Fla., denies a report in The Hartford Courant that his son verballed to Connecticut over Tennessee, Alabama and Florida. UConn is still favored over the Gators.

Ohio has a commitment from guard/forward Jeff Halbert of White Bear Lake, Minn. The Bobcats recently gained forward Andrejs Kregers of Lawrence-North, Ind.

Forward Justin Johnson of Merrillville, Ind., committed to Kansas State.

Robert Morris has a commitment from guard Kris Kuhn of Omaha-Central, Neb.

6-5 guard Jason Forte of Bay Springs, Miss., has committed to Boston College over Miami (Fla.). He averaged 28 points as a junior.

Rhode Island has a verbal from guard Bamfield Harmon of The Colony, Texas, over interest in Drake.

Wofford has a pledge from forward Tyler Berg of Mount Holly-East Gaston, N.C.

UTEP gained guard Keion Kindred of Compton-Dominquez Hills, Calif., over Minnesota.

Oregon has a commitment from guard Jordan Kent of Eugene-Churchill, Ore., who is the son of Ducks head coach Ernie Kent. The Ducks recently pledged guards Brandon Lincoln of Portland-Jefferson, Ore., over Missouri; and Andre Joseph of Houston-Furr, Texas/Stephen F. Austin/Lee College, Texas, over Houston.

Guard Mike Lasme of Burlington-Life Center Academy, N.J., has recommitted to UMass.

Guard Dan Oglesby of Hamden-Hamden Hall, Conn., verballed to South Florida.

Forwards Robert Strickland and Renardo Dixon, both from Chatham-Hargrave MA, Va., picked Marshall.

Albany has a commitment from center Neil Barbaris of Hewitt-West Milford, N.J./Fairleigh Dickinson/Palm Beach CC, Fla.

Montana State pledged guard Josh Barsh of Tacoma CC, Wash.

Eastern Washington has a commitment from forward Khary Nicholas of Tacoma CC, Wash.

Boise State pledged forward Aaron Hayes of Sacramento CC, Calif.

Holy Cross has a commitment from forward Kevin Hyland of White Plains-Archbishop Stepinac, N.Y.

Colorado has 19 commitments, including offensive lineman Clint Werth of Hays, Kan./Garden City CC, Kan., who had signed with Oklahoma in Class 2001; and linebacker/defensive lineman Alex Ligon of Torrance-North, Calif.

Texas Tech pledged linebacker Scott Lee of Stephenville, Texas, over Colorado.

Big East:
West Virginia has added defensive lineman Tory Collins of New Orleans-Fortier, La., over LSU, Southern Mississippi and UAB.

ACC:
North Carolina has a commitment from linebacker Victor Worsley of Tarboro-North Edgecombe, N.C., over interest from Clemson, Boston College, East Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Duke and Wake Forest.

SEC:
Tennessee has a verbal from defensive lineman Mondre Dickerson of Memphis-Melrose, Tenn./Coffeyville CC, Kan., who originally signed with the Vols in Class 2000.

Auburn has a verbal from tight end Lawrence Lilly of Montevallo, Ala., over Alabama, Duke, Mississippi and Vanderbilt. The Tigers recently added defensive back Brandon Williams of Columbus-Shaw, Ga.; and linebacker/defensive lineman Greg Wilkerson of Bowden, Ga., over interest in Florida State, Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

MAC:
Marshall added quarterback Jimmy Skinner of Chillicothe, Ohio.

Pac-10:
Offensive lineman Alex Potasi of Harbor City-Narbonne, Calif., decommitted from Southern California.

The Washington Huskies gained defensive lineman/tight end Jordan Reffett of Moses Lake, Wash., over Washington State and Idaho.

WAC:
Fresno State has a commitment from linebacker Rashon Vercher of Bakersfield, Calif.
