TE Winston to Miami

Miami has pledged Top 150 tight end Eric Winston of Midland-Lee, Texas, over Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Texas and LSU. The Canes recently gained Top 150 linebacker Nate Harris of Miami-Edison, Fla., over Michigan State; and defensive back Glenn Sharpe of Miami-Carol City, Fla.

Top 150 defensive lineman Willie Henderson of Memphis-Ridgeway, Tenn., decommitted from Tennessee and pledged to Memphis. The Tigers recently gained kicker Danny Haynes of Killen-Brooks, Ala./Alabama/East Central CC, Miss.

Mark Farris, a Top 150 offensive lineman from Pittsburgh-North Hills, Pa., chose Penn State over Michigan, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Miami and Florida.

Top 150 receiver Blake Mackey of Bakersfield, Calif., who decommitted from Colorado, and linebacker Jamar Williams of Houston-Langham Creek, Texas, who decommitted from Duke, have pledged to Arizona State. The Sun Devils recently gained Top 150 junior college defensive lineman Matt Mason of Glendale CC, Ariz., over South Carolina and Kansas; receiver Terry Richardson of Corona-Centennial, Calif., over interest from Southern California, Washington and Oregon; and offensive lineman Stephen Berg of Tucson-Canyon del Oro, Ariz., over Arizona, UCLA and Oregon State.

Texas, Ohio State, Colorado, Michigan, Tennessee and UCLA lead the early Top 25 Classes.

Big Ten:
The Iowa Hawkeyes pledged defensive lineman Steve Burch of Detroit-DePorres, Mich. The Hawkeyes recently gained quarterback Jason Manson of Bloomfield, Conn., over interest from Wisconsin, Penn State and Boston College; linebacker Edmond Miles of Tallahassee-Godby, Fla., over interest from Arkansas and Southern California; and defensive back Richie Williams of North Augusta, Ga.

Purdue added receiver/defensive back Ray Williams of Scotch Plains-Fanwood, N.J., over Iowa, Rutgers, North Carolina and Virginia; and Top 150 junior college receiver Tony Madison of Highland CC, Kan., over Iowa and Kansas State.

Big 12:
Nebraska has a commitment from offensive lineman Jamayel Phillips of Winnfield, La., who decommitted from Auburn. The Huskers recently added Top 150 running back David Horne of Omaha-Central, Neb., over Michigan, Colorado, Iowa, Notre Dame and Wisconsin; and offensive lineman Brandon Greeson of High Point-Central, N.C.

Offensive lineman LeQualan McDonald of Waco, Texas, and defensive back Willie Andrews of Longview, Texas, picked Baylor over interest from Notre Dame, Texas A&M and UCLA.

Kansas State added offensive lineman Logan Robinson of Agra-Eastern Heights, Kan.

Big East:
Linebacker Azzie Beagnyam of Houston-Clear Lake, Texas, decommitted from Texas A&M and chose Pittsburgh. The Panthers recently gained linebacker Vernon Botts of Eastampton-Rancocas Valley, N.J.

ACC:
Florida State gained offensive lineman Cory Niblock of St. Augustine-Nease, Fla.

Maryland added receiver/defensive back Jo Jo Walker of Carrollton-Creekview, Texas, and linebacker Reggie Holmes of Bowie, Md., who drew interest from Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Michigan State and Tennessee.

Pac-10:
California has a pledge from defensive back Wale Forrester of Venice, Calif., who decommitted from Fresno State.

SEC:
Tennessee gained defensive linemen Greg Jones of Jonesboro, Ark., over Arkansas, Memphis and Mississippi; and LaRon Harris of Memphis-Kingsbury, Tenn., over Auburn and Arkansas.

Mississippi has a pledge from linebacker Dedrick Clark of Pontotoc, Miss., over Tennessee and Mississippi State.

Mississippi State gained running back Bryson Davis of Plainview, Texas.

Vanderbilt pledged running back Ronald Bullock of New Orleans-Brother Martin, La., who decommitted from Rice. The Commodores have recent commitments from linebacker Kevin Joyce of Orlando-Lake Highland, Fla., over Boston College; plus defensive backs Tim Miller of Detroit-Country Day, Mich., and Andrew Pace of Mountain Brook, Ala.

Conference USA:
Houston added defensive lineman Joshua Szepieniec of Houston-Sterling, Texas, who decommitted from Purdue; defensive lineman Matthew Bentley of Alvin, Texas; tight end Chris Hudler of Mesquite, Texas; defensive lineman Blake Garrison of Muenster, Texas; defensive lineman Josh Veal of Shasta CC, Calif.; Top 150 junior college defensive lineman Farouk Adelekan of College of DuPage, Ill.; and tight end Pete Howard of Blinn CC, Texas.

MAC:
Running back James Tunstalle of Wyoming-East, W.Va., chose Marshall over Maryland, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

Eastern Michigan added quarterback/defensive back Cody Mixon of Arlington-Grace, Texas.

WAC:
Defensive backs Jamey Harper of Atlanta, Texas, and Rolando Humphrey of Duncanville, Texas, over Tulsa and Iowa State, chose SMU.

Rice has pledged linebacker John Syptak of Bellville, Texas, and defensive back/running back Andray Downs of Rowlett, Texas.

Sun Belt:
Arkansas State added defensive back Brandon Payne of Blinn CC, Texas.

Mountain West:
Colorado State added linebacker Micah Woods of Houston-Sterling, Texas.

Receiver Steven Savoy of Washington, D.C.-Dunbar, has signed with Utah. The Utes recently added receiver Larry Miles of San Diego-Crawford, Calif./Mesa CC, Calif.

Duke leads the Early Top 25 Classes. Over 1,000 men and women finalized choices during the Nov. 14-21 early period. The late period runs Apr. 10-May 15.

Top News:
Top 100 junior college guard Brandon Brooks of Portland-Jefferson, Ore./Indian Hills CC, Iowa, decommitted from USC and chose Iowa State.

Forward Byron Sanders of Gulfport-Harrison Central, Miss., committed to North Carolina. The Heels recently gained center Damion Grant of Jamaica/Newport Prep, Md./Wolfeboro-Brewster Academy, N.H., over Seton Hall and Louisville. Others were St. John's, Indiana, Illinois, Providence and LSU.

Guard Trey Pearson of South Fulton, Tenn., chose Mississippi.

Center/forward Marvin Stone of Huntsville, Ala., has transferred from Kentucky to Louisville. He was dismissed by the Wildcats when he didn't return after Christmas break.

Top 100 forward Kevin Bookout of Stroud, Okla., pledged to Oklahoma.

Forward Ronald Dokes of South Bend, Ind./Lincoln Trail CC, Ill., committed to Duquesne.

Guard Justin Flatt of Savannah-Hardin County, Tenn., committed to North Carolina State.

Class 2003 junior guard Dane Bradshaw of Memphis-White Station, Tenn., committed to Tennessee.

Top 50 junior college guard Tony Bobbitt of Dayton Beach-Mainland, Fla./Hargrave MA, Va/Tallahassee CC, Fla./College of Southern Idaho, Idaho, has committed to Cincinnati. He originally chose Florida State as a prep.
