Humphries granted release from Duke

Top 100 forward Kris Humphries, a Class 2003 prospect from Minnetonka-Hopkins, Minn., has received a qualified release from his signed letter to Duke and coach Mike Krzyzewski. Other possible programs may include Minnesota, Indiana and Kansas.

Humphries averaged 25.5 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, five steals and 2.5 blocks as a senior. He was named Mr. Basketball in Minnesota and to the Parade and McDonald's All American teams.

Junior forward Zach Williams of Brooklyn-Christ the King, NY., is transfering from Ohio State. He started 22 games during 2002-03.

Freshman forward Marcus Morrison of St. Petersburg-Lakewood, Fla., is transfering from South Carolina. He played in 20 of 28 games as a reserve, averaging two points.

Miami-Florida has signed Class 2003 guard Anthony Harris of Chicago-Whitney Young, Ill., who drew interest from Memphis, Fresno State and Pittsburgh.

Damion Staple, a Class 2003 forward from Southeastern Illinois CC, Ill., has made his signing with Iowa State firm after meeting with new coach Wayne Morgan. He had expressed doubt following the coaching change.

Class 2003 forward Mike Travis of CC of San Francisco, who was released from his letter to Texas Tech, has chosen Jackson State.

Appalachian State signed Class 2003 forward Herbert Jones of Allegany CC, Md.

Jacksonville signed Class 2003 center Jure Lozancic of Olney CC, Ill.

Class 2003:


Over 1060 Class 2003 prospects have made commitments or signed scholarship papers. Signings and commitments by conferences. The early period ran Nov. 13-20 and the late period was Apr. 16-May 15. Although the period for signing letters-of-intent which binds both parties has ended, players may still sign letters-of-agreement, which binds the school and not the athlete.

Arizona, Duke, Maryland, Illinois and Kansas lead the Early 2003 Top Classes.

2002 NBA Draft:
The NBA selected only one high school and a single junior college prospect: Center/forward Amare Stoudemire of Orlando-Cypress Creek, Fla., was taken 9th in the first round by Phoenix, while Portland took forward Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi CC, Miss., at No. 21 in the first round. The NBA passed on three other high school/prep school prospects and seven JC players (List).

2003 McDonald's All-American Game
LeBron James scored 27 points in leading the East over the West, 122-107, in the 26th annual McDonald's All-American high school basketball game in Cleveland, Ohio. McDonald's All-American Game stories/Rosters for 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000.
