Considered the nation's top defensive lineman in Class 2003, Nate Robinson of Irvington, NJ., is headed to Rutgers over North Carolina.

Robinson, who had originally signed with Miami-Florida, was recently released by the Canes for not meeting school academic qualifying standards. Approved by the NCAA, he will be eligible at Rutgers for the upcoming season.

Nebraska has a commitment from Class 2004 quarterback D.T. McDowell of Tucker, Ga., over offers from Auburn, BYU, LSU, Mississippi State and Virginia.

Wake Forest pledged receiver Clarence Vaughn of Fairfax-Robinson, Va; and defensive back Chessley Johnson of Frisco, Tex.

North Carolina has a commitment from Class 2004 linebacker Cori Powell of Charlotte-Providence Day, NC., over Maryland. The Heels recently gained linebacker/defensive back Chase Rice of Asheville-Reynolds, NC., over offers from Wake Forest and Duke.
