Wednesday, April 11 A week off offers time for family By Jay Sauter Special to ESPN.com During my week off last week, I spent some good quality time with my family. I thought about going to Martinsville, Va., to watch the races last weekend. I also thought about heading over to see my brother, Johnny, race in the ASA series at South Boston, Va. But, instead I took advantage of the nice weather and got out the jet ski, and I built a ski lift.
Now that our off week is over and I got some much needed rest, the team and I are anxious to head to Nashville, Tenn., for the next race at the new superspeedway. This will be the first race at the new 1.333-mile oval. The old Nashville Speedway USA was a 0.596-mile oval, about half the size. We have had some good success in the Music City in the past. Last year we finished sixth in the Busch race. In the truck races the previous three years, we posted three top-15 finishes. Going to a new track without any testing puts everybody on an even playing field. We'll get information on the track and equate that data to similar tracks we've raced. I feel as though mentally I can adjust to a new track better than most, so I am looking forward to another competitive run for the Quality Farm Stores team. The team is coming off a great run at Texas. The morale of the team is great. We have had several other good runs earlier this season, but we don't have the finishes to show it. The crew has really been working hard getting several new cars ready for the upcoming races. The team can't wait to get to the track to continue to build on the momentum that was started at Texas. We are 11th in the point standings, only 16 points out of the top-10. We have our sights set and intend on breaking into the top-10 this week. Jay Sauter drives the No. 43 car in the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division and will be submitting a weekly diary to ESPN.com throughout the season. |
