Kenny Brack
Brack: Indy looks great

Hello everyone from the Racing Capital of the World, Indianapolis. We're in our fourth day of testing for the greatest race in the world, the Indy 500. The weather here has been really strange over the last few days. It pours down rain and then the sun will come out and be beautiful. That's Indiana weather for you.

We have gotten a lot of work done on the Target car over the last few days. We have been just a little bit off of where we need to be on Saturday. The car hasn't been bad, it's just not perfect yet. We are making small gains each day and the guys have been working really hard to make the car better for me.

The speedway has done a great job with the track since I've been away. They took a grinder and ground down the surface of the track. That has taken a few of the bumps out of the surface and the track now is very smooth. It also has a lot more grip, which is good.

They have also installed the new SAFER wall system, also called "soft walls." We have had two pretty bad accidents out here so far this week and the walls have seemed to prove their merit. Both Robby (McGehee) and PJ (Jones) hit real hard going backwards and the walls have softened the impact. I hope that I won't have to see how well they work this month, but it's good to know that they are there.

We've got a busy month coming up. We test out here for the rest of the week and then we qualify on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, the track is closed for Indy 500 testing, but we have a CART test up in Milwaukee. We are going to try and get the car prepared for the race on June 2. I won there last year, so I hope that I can defend my title. Then we're back here at IMS for practice on Wednesday through Sunday. It's great to be back here at Indy.

We've made some changes to the car overnight last night and I'm hoping that we can find a little more speed. I'm not worried about winning the pole on Saturday. That might sound odd, but no one ever wins the Borg-Warner trophy on qualifying day. That being said, it is good to start near the front of the field -- 33 cars stacked three-wide can cause some problems in the first turn at Indy. That's why it's better to be toward the front.

I had a live radio interview last night at the Brickyard Crossing resort with Al Unser Jr. That was a good time. He's a great guy and we had a lot of fun. He's pretty mellow, he never gets too happy or too sad. I'm glad that we were able to spend some time together. I'm hoping to join him in the ranks of the few multiple winners of the Indy 500.

When you're away for a while, you don't realize how big this race really is. I look around and see all of the seats that this place holds. On race day, all those stands will be full. Over 400,000 people will se us race here. That's pretty overwhelming.

On rainy days like today, it allows me to visit a lot of old friends that I have here at the speedway. It also allows you to develop a closer relationship with your team. Well, it looks like the rain has come to an end soon. They just told me that we have about 30 minutes until the track is dry. I better get suited up and get over to the garage. Talk to you next week!
