2002 recap
The good: Alex Tagliani scored a pair of second-place finishes at Japan and Elkhart Lake, Ind., a fourth at Miami and two fifth-place finishes at Monterrey and Cleveland. He also started on the front row at Chicago and third at Monterrey and Elkhart Lake.

  • Season highlight: The Canadian stormed from 12th to second on the oval at Motegi, Japan, leading 23 laps in the process.

The bad: He suffered through a pair of three-race slumps that really hurt his chances in the standings.

  • Season lowlight: Tagliani was rear-ended and knocked upside down at the aborted start of the Australian monsoon.

    Alex Tagliani
Tagliani led laps in 2002, but failed to win a race.

Key stat: He led 115 laps, but never the last one.

    2003 outlook
Has a contract with Player's, but is being farmed out to another team because the Canadian-based operation can only field two cars. Likely to end up with Paul Gentilozzi's new outfit.

Update: Tagliani has indeed signed on to drive for Paul Gentilozzi in 2003.

Prediction: A pivotal year for Tagliani. He's got the speed to win, but does he have the other ingredients?

    Your take
Here are your thoughts on Tagliani's prospects for 2003.
