2002 recap
Competed in FIA F3000 series as a teammate to another CART rookie, Sebastien Bourdais, on the Super Nova team. Had a season-best finish of fifth at Hockenheim, Germany and wound up 12th in standings. In 2001, captured the French GT championship and finished fourth at 24 Hours of LeMans. Also runner-up in French Formula 3 series with four wins.
2003 outlook
This 26-year-old native of Porto, Portugal has been hired by Emerson Fittipaldi to pilot the 1989 CART champ's first venture into champ cars as an owner (along with Mike Dingman). He's starting from behind with no testing and a crew that's still being assembled but does have plenty of open wheel experience.
