Interlagos, Brazil
A real challenge, with quick corners, the Interlagos circuit has been considerably developed since its opening in 1940, with re-shaping from its early 6.88km/4.3m to the current 4.292km/2.667m lap, enabling it to win the annual contract to stage the grand prix in 1990. The circuit takes its name from racing driver Carlos Pace whose only victory came in his home event, back in 1975, two years prior to a fatal air-crash.
Sao Paolo has a special chapter in the history of grand prix, being the home city of two of Brazil's great World Champions - Emerson Fittipaldi and the late Ayrton Senna. Circuit built in 1940 by private funding, but within a decade passed into municipal ownership.
