AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Greg Biffle held off three-time Phoenix International Raceway winner Jack Sprague on three late restarts Friday to win the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series' Chevy Silverado 150.

Biffle, the 2000 series champion, edged Sprague by 0.542 seconds as Sprague pushed his season lead to 141 points with only the Nov. 3 race at California Speedway left.

"I wasn't going to pass anyone," said Sprague, who needs only to start the Auto Club 200 in Fontana, Calif., to win an unprecedented third series championship.

Biffle's win was his 16th on the truck series and only the second for Ford this season. He also won in August in Nazareth, Pa.

"We've got a great gear combination for restarts," said Biffle, who started 11th, took the lead on lap 81 and stayed in front the rest of the way. "I was about to get away from him -- just enough. The No. 14 (Rick Crawford) was putting pressure on him and that's what I needed."

Two late caution flags, on lap 149 and lap 156, stretched the scheduled 150-lap distance to 159. Biffle averaged 92.726 mph for the 159 miles, winning $41,160.

Crawford, who led nine laps before a slow pit stop left him 12th at the race's midpoint, drove his Ford to a third-place finish. Pole starter Stacy Compton failed to lead a lap and took fourth in a Dodge. Bryan Reffner, at the wheel of another Dodge Ram, made the biggest move among the 36 starters, finishing fifth after starting 31st.

Ted Musgrave, Terry Cook, Scott Riggs, Travis Kvapil and Ken Schrader completed the top 10 finishers as 17 drivers finished all 159 laps around the low-banked mile oval.

The race was free of major accident, although solo crashes knocked out Dennis Setzer, Coy Gibbs, Loni Richardson and Tom Carey. Carey's 148th lap accident in Turn 4 extended the race, which was further lengthened on lap 155 when Brian Rose slammed the Turn 1 barrier. No driver was injured.

Sprague dominated the early going after taking the lead from Compton at the initial green. He paced the field four times over the first 80 laps before Biffle finally made his way to the front.

Crawford, with fresher tires thanks to a lap-108 stop, was a contender at the finish but restarted too far back -- eighth -- to reach Biffle and Sprague before three cautions over the final 21 laps kept his Ford from capitalizing on his better tire package.
