Saturday, March 3 Jordan cars qualify fourth, seventh Reuters MELBOURNE, Australia -- German driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen said on Saturday that Jordan's secret was out after he qualified fourth fastest for Sunday's Australian Formula One Grand Prix. "Until now I haven't really wanted to talk about the car because we were waiting to see how it performed in competitive circuit conditions," Frentzen said. "But now the cat's out of the bag so to speak, and people can see that the car is quick. "The true test will be tomorrow's race. I'm very happy with everything so far." Ferrari's Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello top the grid ahead of McLaren driver Mika Hakkinen, who was runner-up to Schumacher in last year's championship. Frentzen's Jordan team-mate, Italian Jarno Trulli, qualified in seventh place. In 1999, Jordan finished third in the constructors' championship but slumped to sixth last season after being dogged by gearbox problems. The signing of a works engine deal with Honda made it critical that they improve. Team boss Eddie Jordan said it had been a solid performance on Saturday: "Things didn't seem to pull together fully for Jarno, but Heinz was right up there," Jordan said. "We've completed a good number of laps in the last two days and the consistent performance shows the car's reliable and honest characteristics." |
