Hakkinen has slight concussion
Reuters

MELBOURNE, Australia -- McLaren's Formula One former world champion Mika Hakkinen suffered a slight concussion after crashing out of Sunday's Australian Grand Prix while running in second place.

The Finn slammed into the tire barrier on his 26th lap after skidding off the track at speed following what looked like a right front suspension failure.

It was the second year in a row that Hakkinen had failed to finish in the season-opening race.

"At the moment we don't know what happened," said McLaren technical director Adrian Newey. "We had some sort of either suspension or brake problem.

"There are some marks on his helmet so he's very slightly concussed."
