Trulli dedicates day to Alberto
Reuters

BARCELONA – Italian Jarno Trulli dedicated his fourth place finish in Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix to his late compatriot Michele Alboreto.

Alboreto, the last Italian to win a Formula One Grand Prix for Ferrari, died in an accident in Germany on Wednesday while testing an Audi sportscar that he would have raced at Le Mans. He was 44.

Trulli finished fourth for the Jordan team at the Circuit de Catalunya and remembered the driver, who also drew tributes from the crowd.

"Grazie, arrivederci, Alboreto (Thank you, farewell, Alboreto)" declared one banner festooned on the fencing.

"I would like to dedicate my good result to Michele Alboreto," said Trulli in a team statement.

"I had the chance to meet him socially and he was a truly lovely person as well as a great driver.

"He will be sorely missed, particularly by those in motor sport to whom he still gave so much."
