Hungarian GP team-by-team recap
Reuters

BUDAPEST -- Team by team analysis of Sunday's Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix:

FERRARI (Michael Schumacher 1, Rubens Barrichello 2)
Schumacher wrapped up his fourth world title, and record-equaling 51st win, with four races to spare while Barrichello's second place swept the team to their third constructors' title in a row.

MCLAREN (David Coulthard 3, Mika Hakkinen 5)
Coulthard was third into the first corner and, despite leading during pit stops, could not make up the ground on a tight and twisty track. He had a problem with a refuelling nozzle on his second stop. Hakkinen made three stops, one a failed bid to try to get past Ralf Schumacher's Williams. His only consolation was to set a lap record of 1:16.723 on lap 51.

WILLIAMS (Ralf Schumacher 4, Juan Pablo Montoya 8)
"This was the toughest race of the year," commented Ralf. "I was constantly fighting both oversteer and understeer." Montoya said the car felt bad from start to finish. "We were never quite on the pace this weekend," said technical director Patrick Head.

BENETTON (Giancarlo Fisichella, Jenson Button retired)
Fisichella ran well early on but suffered an engine failure seven laps from the finish. Button had a 10-second stop/go penalty for jumping the start and then made a mistake on lap 58 and spun coming through the first corner.

BAR (Jacques Villeneuve 9, Olivier Panis retired)
Villeneuve used his spare car during the race after the team suspected a problem. Panis returned to the pits with an electrical problem after his second pits top and stayed in the car as engineers tried in vain to fix it.

JORDAN (Jean Alesi 10, Jarno Trulli retired)
Alesi was satisfied with his Jordan debut but said it was tough as he was learning things about the car and "trying to remember which buttons to use and work with a clutch on the steering wheel as opposed to having a pedal." Trulli was fifth at the first corner but lost pace and then suffered a fuel nozzle problem. His race ended with a hydraulic failure on lap 55.

ARROWS (Jos Verstappen 12, Enrique Bernoldi retired)
Verstappen paid for his poor qualifying, finding it hard to overtake on the circuit. "As soon as you go off the racing line you go through all the dust and then have to spend time cleaning up your tires," he said. Bernoldi locked his brakes and spun off after 11 laps.

SAUBER (Nick Heidfeld 6, Kimi Raikkonen 7)
Sauber strengthened their fourth place in the championship, now four points clear of BAR. Heidfeld had a brush with Jordan's Trulli at the start. Raikkonen had a spell in sixth place before his second stop.

JAGUAR (Pedro de la Rosa 11, Eddie Irvine retired)
A disappointing weekend. Irvine spun off on the first turn and blamed only himself for going into the corner too fast. De la Rosa said his first set of tires blistered very quickly and he suffered low grip.

MINARDI (Fernando Alonso and Tarso Marques retired)
Alonso qualified 18th but suffered brake problems on lap 37 when a wheel locked and he went into the gravel. Marques retired on the 64th lap after the team advised him to because of an engine oil pressure worry. Marques blamed Prost's Heinz-Harald Frentzen for pushing him off at the first corner.

PROST (Frentzen and Luciano Burti retired)
Burti went out on his eighth lap after spinning on blistered tires. Frentzen lasted 63 laps. "Basically I put too much power in a corner and went off the track," the German said of his Prost debut. It was the first time this season that both Prosts failed to finish.
