Ecclestone wants to race at Indy
Associated Press

MONZA, Italy -- The powerful Ferrari team would agree with a decision to call off this month's U.S. Grand Prix in Indianapolis because of terrorist attacks in the United States.

U.S. organizers and international auto racing authorities have repeatedly said the Formula One race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sept. 30 will proceed as scheduled.

"It's true that life must go on. ... However if a decision not to stage the race is taken for obvious reasons, I would agree," Ferrari chairman Luca Di Montezemolo said Saturday from the Italian Grand Prix.

Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone stressed the importance of running the race.

"We will go to Indianapolis because we are men of sports," Ecclestone told the Italian TV network RAI.

Ross Brawn, Ferrari's technical director, understands the worries expressed by some drivers about racing at Indianapolis.

"However when they sit in the cars they just focus on driving," he said.

One problem could be delivery of cars and materials. Team officials said air shipments from Milan, scheduled for Thursday, may be difficult because of tight security in the United States and uncertain trans-Atlantic flights.
