Schumacher: To see or not to see
Reuters

SILVERSTONE, England -- Ralf Schumacher says he has still to decide whether to wear glasses in Formula One this season.

The short-sighted German driver, winner of three races, realized last year that he could see better with spectacles and is having special ones made of bullet-proof glass designed to fit under his helmet.

The ruling FIA has given the all-clear but the 26-year-old told reporters at the launch of Williams' new car on Friday that he had yet to reach a firm decision.

"Valencia was the first time when I tried glasses and contact lenses," he said of a test in Spain this month at which he tried some 30 pairs.

"I still haven't made my mind up."

Spectacles have previously been thought too difficult to fit under a heavily padded helmet as well as being dangerous if they shattered.

"It depends on the frame you are using and the glass," said Ralf. "It's bullet-proof glass usually, it should not be any danger at all."
