Put the pedal to the metal in ESPN's Fantasy Racing 2002. Get your teams today! |
Tuesday, February 5 Users: Trulli better off at Renault ESPN.com Here's what users had to say about Renault's Jarno Trulli and his future prospects:
Trulli will truly make podiums and points finishes as long as Renault can provide him with a car that's reliable both aerodynamically and engine wise -- no wins, but definately podiums finishes (a six-speed gearbox as opposed to seven-speed gearbox is a distinct disadvantage). Christopher Edie West Indies
Jarno is a recognizable talent whose day is yet to come. Renault is a reliable and formidable F1 builder who should be able to quickly put a good ride under Trulli. Even though the 2002 car is undeniably hideous, I predict it will hold up and launch Trulli into the top-six by year's end. We could possibly even see a victory or two. (OK, I go on record now: Michael, JPM, Kimi, Rubens, Ralph, Trulli -- yes, DC will disappear). With Renault joining Ferrari as the only team to manufacture the entire car, they know they will be in the spotlight and comparisons will abound. I'm sure they welcome that prospect and hopefully they will maintain faith in their drivers and have a successful season. With Trulli, technical expertise, and history on their side, look for a fast rise to competitiveness, unlike the doldrums that Toyota will have to endure. Steve Averett Charlotte, N.C.
The notion that Trulli is a better qualifier than a racer is an unfair knock on the Italian. The 2001 Jordan was consistent on Saturday and disappeared Sundays irrespective of he pilot. Jarno's whole future hinges on the success of the 2002 Renault. Barichello's seat in Ferrari will more than likely go to Trulli or Fisichella. Their driving skills are so equal, that it will probably come down to who has the better ride this year. The competition is getting younger and if Trulli isn't provided with a ride to showcase his talents this year, he may just be another sad example of wasted potential like Panis or Alesi. Red Meyer Des Moines, Iowa
I believe Jarno and Renault will make a considerable "splash" in the F1 circus this year. Not unlike Rene Arnoux and Renault some years back. I wish them both good luck. Harry Johnson Eureka, Calif.
He's one of most underrated driver in F1 (beside Fisichella and Heidfeld). I wonder why Ferrari didn't bring him instead of Barrichelleo. This guy is very fast and needs a reliable team to prove his worth. Last season with Jordan was a disaster for him. Hopefully this year Renault is powerfull and reliable enough to challenge Ferrari's domonance. Compared to his teammate Jenson Button, he's surely more capable. Saiful Azmi Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Trulli is a very good talent and will out-perform the overrated Jenson Button throughout the season -- both in qualifying and at race day. Renault's official return to F1 will be good for the sport, and as they improve the car Trulli may yet get a chance to show what he can do. They still have some kinks to work out and I see them having reliability problems as they ran into some difficulty last year (as Benetton) with the new engine design. Still, Jarno certainly finds himself in a better position than last year with Jordan. Outlook: Look for Trulli to score around 10-14 points and possibly a podium finish. Shaun M. Virginia
I think Trulli can compete with the likes of Coulthard and Barrichello. In F1, the car plays a huge part in the success for the driver, and unfortunately the Jordan let Trulli down. I think Renault will need at least two years to work out all the bugs to become top tier again. Jerry Olcsvary Princeton, N.J.
Be it car problems or not, I think his race day fades have clouded over his star. However, as long as Renault builds on its 2001 finish, I think we'll be seeing a lot from Mr. Trulli (as well as Mr. Button). I can't wait! Tim Decatur, Ga. |
