MARANELLO, Italy -- Four-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher set a circuit record Sunday on the first day of testing the new F-2002 Ferrari.

The fastest of his 67 laps around the 1.85-mile Fiorano circuit was 58.620 seconds, eclipsing the previous best of 58.792 from last year.

"It was a promising debut with the new car. I had a good feeling," Schumacher said.

Ferrari's new car was unveiled at company headquarters last Wednesday and hit the track for the first time Sunday.
