"It is clear that the F2001 proved it was competitive in the Australian Grand Prix and that can also be the case in Malaysia, where we will presumably encounter different weather conditions," team boss Jean Todt told Ferrari's official website. "In the meantime, we will continue to work on the F2002, with the aim of racing with it as soon as possible." Ferrari won last weekend's season-opening Australian Grand Prix with Michael Schumacher driving the modified 'old' car after leaving the new one at their Maranello factory following concerns about its reliability. Brazilian Rubens Barrichello also took pole position in Melbourne in the F2001. The team, which has won all three Malaysian grands prix to date, has been testing both versions in Italy this week before deciding which to use at Sepang. "The development program for the F2002 is progressing well," Todt said, confirming that the same cars used in Australia would run in Malaysia. "(Test driver) Luca Badoer's work in Mugello is producing good signs and today, we did a race simulation." |
