NUERBURGRING, Germany -- Team by team recaps of the European Formula One Grand Prix:
Ferrari (Rubens Barrichello 1, Michael Schumacher 2):
Barrichello took the second win of his career and first of the season after leading from the first lap. Schumacher settled
in behind from lap three. It was Ferrari's fourth one-two of 2002 and 151st win in their history. "We allowed our drivers to
race one another up to the second pit stop and then we told them to hold station," said boss Jean Todt.
McLaren (Kimi Raikkonen 3, David Coulthard retired):
Raikkonen's second podium of the year equaled his best performance to date. Coulthard collided with Colombian Juan
Pablo Montoya as he tried to overtake on lap 27 and the Williams spun into him. Montoya apologized afterwards.
Williams (Ralf Schumacher 4, Juan Pablo Montoya retired):
Ralf made a good start and passed Montoya into turn one before finding Ferrari too strong to hold off. "The car was
incredibly difficult to drive as we had some tire problems from early in the race," he said. Montoya collided with Coulthard.
Sauber (Felipe Massa 6, Nick Heidfeld 7):
Massa took an important point for the fifth placed Sauber team. "I made a brilliant start and made my race by the first
corner," he said. Heidfeld was overtaken by Massa and could not regain the lost ground.
Jordan (Takuma Sato 16, Giancarlo Fisichella retired):
Fisichella had a nightmare on his 100th grand prix start, hitting Sato's car on turn one. The Italian had a front wing
change but the car was undriveable. He apologized to his teammate.
BAR (Olivier Panis 9, Jacques Villeneuve 12):
Panis at least finished for the second race in a row but the car was down on speed. Villeneuve reported a problem on
the formation lap and had to avoid the colliding Jordans in turn one. "From 19th on the grid this was always going to be a
tough race," he said.
Renault (Jenson Button 5, Jarno Trulli 8):
Button did well from eighth on the grid for his fourth points finish in nine races. Trulli had a misfire on lap three and went
off track shortly afterwards. Both cars had intermittent engine faults.
Jaguar (Pedro de la Rosa 11, Eddie Irvine retired):
Irvine lasted 43 laps before a loss of hydraulic pressure. De la Rosa had a problem on the grid with launch control. Both
drivers were on a one-stop strategy and ran with heavy fuel loads -- making them easy targets for cars on two stops.
Arrows (Enrique Bernoldi 10, Heinz Harald Frentzen 13):
Bernoldi jumped from 21st on the grid to 14th at the start and then let Frentzen through on lap 10. Frentzen then went off
and handed the advantage back to Bernoldi. He was also slowed by a fuel rig problem.
Minardi (Mark Webber 15, Alex Yoong retired):
Webber had a chassis balance problem. Yoong jumped the start and served a penalty. He also lost time when his fuel
rig malfunctioned and then retired with a broken hydraulic pump.
Toyota (Allan McNish 14, Mika Salo retired):
McNish had some traction problems and also a painful shoulder due to a new seat. "The pain was so intense after my
second stop it is a miracle I finished the race at all," he said. Salo retired with suspected gearbox problems.
