Rubens Barrichello
Comes off his victory at the European
Grand Prix in Germany; has two career F1 win -- both coming
on German soil; best results at Silverstone was third last year and
fourth in 2000; started from pole in 2000, but retired late in the
race to take eighth; finished in the points four times this year,
and also has four DNFs; tied for fourth place with David Coulthard on
26 points.
David Coulthard
The McLaren driver won this home race
two of the last three years; missed out in 2001 to former teammate
Mika Hakkinen; Coulthard retired after just two laps, but prior to
that disappointing result he finished in the points seven of eight
times; a driver to watch for this weekend; scored points in six
straight grand prixs before contact with Juan Montoya at the
European GP took him out; one victory this year came at the Monaco
Grand Prix, the 12th of his career.
Giancarlo Fisichella
Placed out of the points at
Silverstone the past two years, but has always finished the race;
was 13th last year and seventh in 2000; scored points with a fifth
place result in 1999; finished fifth in three straight events from
Austria, Monaco and Canada.
Heinz-Harald Frentzen
Only two points to show for this
year by way of sixth place finishes in Spain and Monaco; just missed
out on a points finish here last year in seventh behind countryman
Nick Heidfeld; was fourth in 1999 at this track in his best career
season (2 wins, 54 points).
Eddie Irvine
A poor year to this point,
although he started on the right track with a fourth place in
Australia; has had six DNFs since; if all goes according to plan,
the newly revised R3 should see him a little further up the grid;
was second in 2000 and third the season before in England.
Juan Pablo Montoya
Starting from the pole does not seem to
be of much advantage for the Williams BMW driver; started from the
pole the last three grand prixs, but has failed to finish and earn
points in any of them; prior to this bad streak, he finished in the
points in six consecutive events including three runners-up and four
podium efforts; total of 27 points places him third in the
championships standings, three behind teammate Ralf Schumacher and
just one ahead of Rubens Barrichello and David Coulthard; finished
fourth last year at the British Grand Prix.
Michael Schumacher
Six victories in nine grand prixs
heading into the British Grand Prix where he looks to extend his
already huge lead over the rest of the Formula One field; 76 points
earned puts him 46 clear of closest rival brother and BMW Williams
driver Ralf Schumacher; many believe he already has secured a
record-tying fifth championship: "I am looking forward to Silverstone,"
he said. "We did very good tests there with Rubens (Barrichello).
We feel well prepared for the British Grand Prix. We know the car
is superb when it comes to reliability and we have proved we are
competitive on all types of circuits. But we must not be complacent.
There are eight races left in the championship, so anything can happen."
Started second four times in England, won in 1998, was third in 2000 and
second last year after starting from pole; in 1999 he suffered a bad
crash which broke his right leg in two places and sidelined him until
Malaysia.
Ralf Schumacher
Top finishes in England was third in
2000 and a sixth in 1998; Williams BMW has displayed good form this
year and he looks for good things to happen at Silverstone; finished
on the podium four times this year including victory in Malaysia;
overall, earned points in six of nine grand prixs; that gives him 30
points, second most behind brother Michael Schumacher (76).
Jacques Villeneuve
A winner here in 1996 and 1997; that
could be positive news, considering he is still looking for his first
points this year; highest finishes were seventh in San Marino and
Spain; has 12 career F1 wins.
