MAGNY-COURS, France -- Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher's road to the 2002 Formula One title, which he secured with victory at the French Grand Prix:

AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX - March 3 (1st)
Schumacher won his third straight Australian GP after managing to avoid the pile-up at the first lap which claimed eight drivers, including Ferrari team mate Rubens Barrichello. Schumacher took the lead on the 17th lap and was never headed again, crossing the line more than 18 seconds in front of Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya of Williams.

Drivers' standings:
1. Michael Schumacher (Germany) 10 points
2. Juan Pablo Montoya (Colombia) 6

MALAYSIAN GRAND PRIX - March 17 (3rd)
Schumacher, on pole, ended his run of success at Sepang after touching the Williams of Juan Pablo Montoya in a fight for the first corner. He then charged back from last place to finish third behind the Williams pairing of his brother Ralf and Montoya.

Drivers' standings:
1. Michael Schumacher 14 points
2. Montoya 12
3. Ralf Schumacher (Germany) 10

BRAZILIAN GRAND PRIX - March 31 (1st)
Schumacher took the lead at the second corner and held off Ralf for most of the race to clock up his 55th win and fourth in Brazil.

Drivers' standings:
1. Michael Schumacher 24 points
2. Ralf Schumacher 16
3. Montoya 14

SAN MARINO GRAND PRIX - April 14 (1st)
From pole, Schumacher made it to the first corner in front and, apart from when Barrichello took over briefly during his two pit stops, led to the finish.

Drivers' standings:
1. Michael Schumacher 34 points
2. Ralf Schumacher 20
3. Montoya 17

SPANISH GRAND PRIX - April 28 (1st)
Schumacher dominated the race, leading from pole position to the chequered flag for his fourth win out of five races.

Drivers' standings:
1. Michael Schumacher 44 points
2. Montoya 23
3. Ralf Schumacher 20

AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX - May 12 (1st)
Barrichello was quickest in practice, qualifying and the race, leading from pole position until the team controversially instructed him to let Schumacher past in the final few metres to take the chequered flag. A Ferrari one-two, but greeted by jeers not cheers from the crowd.

Drivers' standings:
1. Michael Schumacher 54 points
2. Montoya 27
3. Ralf Schumacher 23

MONACO GRAND PRIX - May 26 (2nd)
Schumacher started third on the grid and held that for the first half of the race. Gambled on an early fuel stop, which paid off when his brother Ralf's first pit stop and Montoya's retirement left him in second. Pushed race winner David Coulthard of McLaren for the rest of the race but could not find a way through.

Drivers' standings:
1. Michael Schumacher 60 points
2. Montoya 27
3. Ralf Schumacher 27

CANADIAN GRAND PRIX - June 9 (1st)
Schumacher let Barrichello, who was on a two-stop strategy, through on the opening lap. Barrichello moved past Montoya into the lead, which he kept until lap 25. But Barrichello's strategy was undone by the safety car's appearance in the 14th lap, which played into Schumacher's hands and he took the lead. He lost it to Montoya when he made his stop, but was close enough to resume control when the Colombian made his second stop.

Drivers' standings:
1. Michael Schumacher 70 points
2. Montoya 27
3. Ralf Schumacher 27

EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX - June 23 (2nd)

BRITISH GRAND PRIX - July 7 (1st)
On a wet and chaotic afternoon at Silverstone, Schumacher beat Barrichello by 14.5 seconds in another Ferrari one-two to stretch his championship lead to 54 points.

Drivers' standings:
1. Michael Schumacher 86 points
2. Rubens Barrichello (Brazil) 32
3. Montoya 31

FRENCH GRAND PRIX - July 21 (1st)
Schumacher, driving in the spare car, overcame a drive-through penalty incurred for cutting across the white line on exiting the pit lane to put himself in second place behind Kimi Raikkonen. With five laps to go, Raikkonen skidded on some oil on the track letting the German through to win the race. Barrichello never made it off the starting grid and Montoya finished fourth. Neither could overtake Schumacher in the last six races of the season.

Drivers' standings:
1. Michael Schumacher 96 points
2. Montoya 34
3. Barrichello 32
