LONDON -- Williams is ready to make amends for its poor Italian Grand Prix showing when it takes to the track at Indianapolis next week, German driver Ralf Schumacher said Friday.

"Some people said that Monza was going to be our last chance for a victory this season, but in my opinion our car will also suit the Indy track," he said in a team preview of the penultimate race of the season.

Ralf's BMW engine blew after five laps of last weekend's Italian race while teammate Juan Pablo Montoya retired after 34 laps with a suspension problem. The Colombian had started on the pole for the seventh time this year.

"After both Juan and I didn't finish in Italy, our performance in the U.S. will be even more carefully scrutinised and we will be looking for a better result," Ralf said. "I hope to be able to heal the wound of our poor performance in Monza together with the team."

Ralf's older brother, Michael Schumacher, has won 10 times this season, a F1 record for a single year, and Ferrari has triumphed in 13 of the 15 races so far. They have already won both championships.

But Ralf won in Malaysia and said he would be heading to the United States a couple of days early to acclimate and relax ahead of the race at The Brickyard.
