We spotlighted F1 drivers Eddie Irvine and Juan Pablo Montoya. Here are your thoughts on their '02 campaigns and prospects for next season:

Eddie Irvine

I wish someone could convince him to come to this side of the pond. CART or IRL could use his personality. The rest of them are duds.

Sean Murphy

Poor Mr. Irvine, he needs to shut-up and drive. If he can't do that, maybe he should retire! If he was half as good as he thinks, he would still be out of the top five no matter what seat he was in.

As far as the loudmouthed, outspoken Irvine is concerned -- send him home to count his millions. I would call him a has been, but I think more appropriately would be to call him a never was. Unlike Barrichello, Irvine only showed success when Michael was recovering from his injury at Silverstone. See ya, Eddie! Stick a fork in him, he's done!

Bob Rose
Irvine, Calif.

He will be sitting at home this season unless he gets Frentzen-Arrows lucky. Irvine's last three seasons seem to be a result of both poor Jaguar management, and poor choices by his talent management staff. His greatest asset (his huge ego and mouth) may get him a gig doing color commentary for pared down F1 races.

Timothy Ahopelto
Denver, Colo.

If the jaguars are fast in '03 they can thank Irvine. If the Jordans are fast in '03 they will also thank Irvine.

Henry Ryan
Seattle, Wash.

Irvine is one of those drivers that could have been great but his move to Jaguar pretty much destroyed his reputation. Even if he joins Jordan, I believe he needs to get into one of the top three teams or at least a Renault to at least be a factor.

The only reason Irvine is thought of as a good F1 driver is because of ONE good year at Ferrari, and it was the year in which M. Schumacher broke his leg. Other than that, Eddie has been little more than an also-ran. If he is so good, why haven't McLaren or Williams made an effort to sign him? These days his asking price is far too high, and his big mouth is a liability. When Irvine was a cocky rookie, Ayrton Senna should have punched him harder.

Dennis Walker
Silverdale, Wash.

Juan Pablo Montoya

If anyone can stop Ferrari from winning the title it is Juan Pablo. if Williams/BMW provide him with a car close to equal terms with the Ferrari, Montoya will make up the difference. Last year's car was just not fast enough, and even though Montoya snatched a bunch of poles last season, that was strictly due to the driver. Unless Williams can give the car a decent race setup all the work he's done in qualifying will be wasted in the races again this season.

Matthew Embury
Saint Joseph, Mich.

There's no doubt JPM can win a championship with his driving skills. The question is, is his equipment good enough to win him (or good enough to beat Ferrari) a championship this year?

Gio Sanchez
Los Angeles, Calif.

Montoya had a pretty good season last year. His only shot at a title is if he moves to Ferrari or Schumacher retires.

Ryan Malander
Hatfield, Pa.

Juan Pablo is driving the Williams better than Ralf, with little Schumacher having far more Williams/F1 experience. I don't think that even Michael would have done it better on the 2002 Williams. Ferrari will still have the bigger budget and will still win most of the races, but if they gave the 2003 Ferrari to Juan and Michael, Montoya would be faster on all 17 race tracks.

Alfonso Rendon
Mexico City

Juan is good, but he's not THAT good. He'd get dropped by Michael Schumacher in the Ferrari, the Williams, heck he'd get creamed on a 10-speed bike! I think there are other drivers with more talent currently in F1. Namely Kimi Raikkonen. I think we'll see Kimi carry the underpowered McLaren to the podium more times in 2003 than we'll see either of the Williams drivers.

Paul Fogel
Kansas City, Mo.

It's quite obvious that Juan Pablo Montoya is "THE FASTEST MAN ON THE PLANET!"

Joseph Ameen
White Plains, N.Y.

Montoya is a good driver but i think he lacks the patience and concentration needed to drive a Formula One car. Montoya needs to seriously prove himself this year to be taken seriously. Last year was a year to forget for JPM with seven poles but no wins but I believe this year that Montoya could snag wins at Sepang, Monza, Indianapolis and possibly even Monaco if he can concentrate hard and be patient enough in his Williams car.
