SEPANG, Malaysia -- Italian Giancarlo Fisichella suffered a recurring nightmare in Malaysia on Sunday, losing his way on the Formula One starting grid for the second time in three years.

In 2001, while with Benetton, Fisichella messed up the starting order when he went to the wrong side of the grid before realising too late and becoming stuck out of position.

Now with Jordan, he made a similar mistake on Sunday and it cost him any chance of a point.

Team boss Eddie Jordan said Fisichella had been following Jacques Villeneuve, who had been due to start immediately in front, and was wrong-footed when the Canadian former champion pulled over with an electrical problem.

The clutch then got too hot and the electronic 'launch control' seized up.

"Coming around, Villeneuve wasn't there so he panicked and forgot which side he was one. He did a three-point turn and the gearbox didn't like it," said Jordan.

"That's life. He did it here before two years ago and let's hope it's over now."
