SILVERSTONE, England -- BAR's Jenson Button has hailed Sunday's British Grand Prix as a highlight of his Formula One career, even though he left Silverstone with just one point gained.

The Briton started from the back of the field after a qualifying nightmare on Saturday but finished eighth after an afternoon full of incident and overtaking.

Even an Irish interloper, dressed in a kilt and appearing on the track during the race, failed to faze him.

"I drove past him. It's a very scary feeling but I think they dealt with it pretty well," said Button. "I could see on the screens them getting him out of the way.

"The problem is that it was such a fantastic race, one of the best races I have ever competed in, and a fantastic crowd," added the 23-year-old.

"I went from the back to 11th and then back to 18th and then back to eighth.

"I loved it, overtaking people. (Ferrari's world champion) Michael (Schumacher) made a mistake and I got past him but he got past me pretty much straight after.

"That was probably the most exciting race that I've had this year. Finishing fourth in Austria was the best finish but this one I enjoyed so much."

Team boss David Richards said Button, in his fourth season in Formula One, had "demonstrated the full scale of his talent.

"He drove an aggressive but extremely mature race, pushing all the way, and that one point may well count for a lot at the end of the season," he said.

Button has now scored 11 of BAR's 14 points. The team are fifth out of 10 in the constructors' championship.
