Minardi to use info for '04 car

LONDON -- Minardi tested their current Formula One car on Tuesday against a renamed Arrows chassis that could form the basis of their 2004 racer.

Minardi boss Paul Stoddart bought several of the 2002 specification Arrows A23 cars from the receivers of the failed team earlier this year. That chassis has been renamed the Minardi PS04.

The team said Dutch driver Jos Verstappen and Denmark's Nicolas Kiesa had switched between the cars at Italy's Mugello circuit.

"We compared both cars, and by the end of the day, the PS03 was quicker by less than 0.2 of a second," said Verstappen in a team statement.

"It would have been useful, however, if we could have spent a bit more time with the PS04 chassis in order to find a better set-up, as we started the day without really knowing anything about the car."

The A23 used the same Ford Cosworth engine as the Minardi PS03 and scored two points last season. Tailenders Minardi, Formula One's smallest team, have yet to finish in the points this year.

Stoddart added: "Ultimately, there was nothing in the lap times between the two cars, but it is clear there is substantial development potential in the PS04.

"We will now return to the factory and analyse the data we've gathered, which will help us decide the direction we are going to take with our 2004 car."
