Monday, January 12 Updated: January 22, 1:14 PM ET Felipe Massa By Dan Knutson Special to ESPN.com
The good: Felipe Massa spent 2003 working as a test driver for Ferrari and gaining invaluable experience of how to set up a car and how a big team works. Fernando Alonso did a similar thing with Renault and says it helped him immensely. The bad: Testing isn't racing. Key stat: Massa had three top six finishes in his rookie 2002 season.
2004 outlook What needs to be done: It's rumored that Massa is being groomed as a future Ferrari driver. He's got prove that he's worthy of such an offer.
Key change: Massa has swapped his testing ride in the fabulous Ferrari for a racing seat in the not so quick Sauber Petronas. Prediction: After his F1 rookie season with Sauber in 2002, when he proved to be fast but erratic, and a season of testing with Ferrari, Massa should be a much more mature driver in his second F1 season. Hopefully the season at Ferrari didn't grind out his mischievous sense of humor. Did you know: Even though he's back racing for Sauber, Massa will continue to work as Ferrari test driver. His new teammate Giancarlo Fisichella will also do some testing for Ferrari.
