Put the pedal to the metal in ESPN's Fantasy Racing 2002. Get your teams today! |
Friday, February 1 Users: Jaques a well-kept secret ESPN.com We asked if Jaques Lazier can step from his brother's shadow and challenge for the title in 2002 or will Team Menard continue to frustrate its followers by being extremely fast but inconsistent. Here are some of the better responses:
Jaques is the best kept secret in the IRL. He's even more exciting to watch than big brother Buddy. This could be a big year for Jaques and John Menard at Indy. Keith Smith Frankfort, Ill.
As a Wisconsin resident, I've followed Team Menard closely over the years. They've gone from being the Indy Underdog to the dominant team to the underachiever. I don't think it matters who the driver is. Team Menard has fast cars, that use all the tricks possible to be fast, which is why they break so often. I admire John Menard for wanting to win the 500. However the team always seems to be lacking the direction/desire to compete well over the whole season. Unless Jacques has the strong personality that Tony Stewart did, look for Lazier to have the same results as Ray...fast cars, some dominating performances, and lots of DNF's. Jason Scott Green Bay, Wis.
Watch for this team to challenge for the championship and Indy. Jaques is a driver's driver and very easy on the equipment. This could be Menards biggest year ever. Stan Adams Pomona, Calif.
I think that Jaques will be the big suprise this year. I look for Team Menard to do very well in 2002. Jim Essar Portage, Mich.
Jaques is one of those nice guys in racing that don't come around very often. I met him while working at Indy in 2000 and though struggling with poor equipment he never had a frown on his face and made everyone he met smile. I'm glad to see him get the type of ride he deserves and I think he'll come close to winning a 500 or Championship this year. Tyler Davis Indianapolis
I think Jaques will be a consistent contender for Team Menard next season. Other than Team Penske, it is probably the best-funded team, and since the inception of the IRL, we have seen how drivers like Tony Stewart and Greg Ray can drive their cars fast. Once Jacques stepped in a Team Menard car, it only took two races to win, so I look for a bright future for this pairing. Matt Demey Harrisburg, Pa.
Lazier drives the wheels off the car! Watching him charge at Kentucky last year was worth the price of admission in itself. It will be up to Team Menard to be concistent in putting together the competitive package every race, not just at Indy. If so, don't be surprised--this is a driver who can win the series title. Dave Pickering Indianapolis
I think people forget that Team Menard won the 1997 and 1999 IRL Championships. The other point people must remember is that John Menard has been a strong backer of the IRL from the begining. Team Menard has given Tony Stewart, Greg Ray, Robby Gordon the equipment, but it's up to the driver to bring home the checker flag at Indy. Tim Conroy Alexandria, Va.
