Put the pedal to the metal in ESPN's Fantasy Racing 2002. Get your teams today! |
Thursday, February 14 Updated: February 15, 12:28 PM ET Users: Salazar nearing the end? ESPN.com We asked how Eliseo Salazar will fare in the No. 11 and if he can up his game in 2002. Here are some of the better responses:
Looking at Salazar's results from the last two years, I feel he will win a lot of races. He definitely out drove Jeff Ward in the 2000 season and consistently out ran Donnie Beechler last year. Looking at his stats from the Indy 500 he finished third and seventh. He has finished higher for A.J. than any other driver in those years. I feel he will be a contender for the 500 and championship this year. Cindy Jones Philadelphia
Salazar is a solid and steady driver for A.J., but lets face it, he isn't Kenny Brack. We will probably see him in the top-10 at Indy this year, but I wouldn't bet on him drinking any milk. John Delph Indianapolis
He is too cautious and not aggressive enough to move up at the start. He drives like an old man, which in actuality -- he is. He is too used to being back in the pack. Frank W. James Walcott, Ind.
Just another fine example of A.J. bringing up a young hard-charging sprint car racer from the bullrings. After all, isn't that A.J.'s roots and why the IRL was founded? Oh wait, you mean with a name like Eliseo Salazar, he's not an open wheel ace from Indiana? Glad to see drivers from overseas are alive and well at A.J.'s shop. Maybe he can earn the nickname "Lone Star Eliseo" or something catchy like that. Ken Patera Olympia, Wash.
Eliseo is aggressive, fast and perfect for oval driving. His strategy is very good! I think he's the best! Manuel Paredes La Serena, Chile
Salazar is a fine driver, but Foyt needs to do more for the team. A.J. should focus on engines and practices and pit stops for this new season. I hope A.J. learned from his mistakes from last season, he is giving too much advantage already. The question is: How bad is A.J. wanting to win the IRL championship? Jose-Luis Jaramillo Pembroke Pines, Fla.
I think you need to keep your eye on Donnie Beechler. Had it not been for the one bad race he could have been in the top ten, and that was only racing part of the year. Salazar will continue to make his mistakes! Mark Defrates Springfield, Ill.
I don't see Salazar finishing in the top five in points this season. With the added level of competition with Penske, Nunn, and the new Team Cheever, it will only be that much more of a challenge. Then add the pressure of Beechler running the No. 14 car full-time and I'd say this is probably the last season we'll see Eliseo with Foyt. Sure he brings good sponsors and funding to the table, but A.J. wants to win. I don't think Salazar is his best option to accomplish this goal. Mark Phillips Indianapolis
This guy should have retired long ago. He never will win a race again. Why does a sponsor like the Banc of Chile not give a young talent a chance? John Raid Atlanta
It is inexcusable for team Foyt to give Salazar subpar equipment on race day. Far to many times his equipment and pit stops have let him down. He may not be the prettiest or most fan friendly, but he may just be the driver to beat this year. Andrew Alley Alexandria, Va. |
