Saturday, February 23 Updated: February 25, 3:33 PM ET Usres: Good chance for Ward ESPN.com We asked how Jeff Ward will in his first season with Chip Ganassi and if the former moto racer ever win in the IRL. Here are some of the better responses:
Ward is one of the drivers in the IRL that everyone seems to like. He's competitive, yet skilled at staying out of trouble and not causing any at the same time. As long as Ganassi didn't spread himself too thin and Ward has competitive equipment and support, this year may be his best chance. His only obstacle? This year's IRL field is the toughest yet. Mark Phillips Indianapolis
I believe Jeff will begin to show what all Motorcycle Racing fans have known for years, that he is a winner. Team Ganassi is just what the doctor ordered for Jeff. I predict at least one victory this season and believe Jeff will finish in the top-5 in the points. Watch for a victory at Indy! Steve Landrum Apple Valley, Calif.
No way! He doesn't have a chance. Helio Castroneves is going to take the IRL championship. Cesar Gonzalez Fontana, Calif.
Jeff's a serious, methodical, and skilled racer. Chip's team is one of the best. I'm reminded of Chip's 1993 Indy effort with Arie Luyendyk, and Arie battling with Nigel and Emmo down the stretch. Of course, Arie already had an Indy win at the time, but Jeff has had some consistent runs with lesser support. Sure, they could win, but the competition in the IRL has never been better. Michael Condre Indianapolis
Having followed Jeff’s career in motocross, I have seen the determination that he has to win. Being a former champion in any form of motor sports gives you an edge on what it takes to get to the top and stay there, and Jeff has done both. He must now take what he has learned and apply it to his current ride for Ganassi Racing. Ken Millsaps Lompoc, Calif.
If he can't win with this team maybe it will never happen. Having seen Jeff in his motocross days. he has the drive and focus -- just needs the results. I hope he doesn't become another Greg Ray. Vern Alary Santa Clarita, Calif.
I think Jeff will do very well with Chip Ganassi Racing.I have been a fan of his since the beginning of his MX career. He certainly has the talent to win with a good team behind him. I look for Jeff to win one maybe even two races this year. Mike Gilbert Naples, Fla.
Ward will do just fine as most who drive for Ganassi have in the past! C. S. Roehm Santa Barbara, Calif.
Jeff will run the entire season for Ganassi and finish in the top five in points at the end of the season. Rich DeNeve South Bend, Ind.
