Friday, May 16 ![]() Foyt IV not hurt in crash Associated Press INDIANAPOLIS -- A.J. Foyt IV crashed during Indianapolis 500 practice Friday but was not hurt. Foyt lost control of the No. 14 car as he went through the first turn, then slid up the banking and slammed hard into the wall with the right rear of the car. It was the second accident in Indy 500 practice for the 18-year-old rookie, the youngest-known qualifier in Indy history. He was not injured in an accident last week when he hit the wall on the fourth turn. Team owner A.J. Foyt, a four-time Indy winner and the driver's grandfather, blamed that accident on a cut tire. During a warmup lap in Sunday's qualifying, the younger Foyt nearly hit the wall on the second turn on a windy day. He spun and rolled to a stop in the back straightaway with the car facing backward. Foyt qualified in the middle of Row 8 with a four-lap average speed of 224.177 mph. Twenty-four drivers have qualified for the 33-car field, which has 11 three-car rows. Last year, Foyt won the Infiniti Pro Series points title. |
