2003 recap
The good: Finished ninth at Phoenix, Pikes Peak and Richmond. Qualified 19th for his first Indy 500 and came home 11th.

The bad: Running at finish in all but one race but uncompetitive in most.

2004 outlook
What needs to be done: After shining for Eddie Cheever in five starts during 2002, former Toyota Atlantic champ was fired with three races remaining in '03 but his replacement didn't fare any better. Rice needed a ride for '04 and he got one when Bobby Rahal named him to be Kenny Brack's replacement while Brack continues to rehab.

Key change: Went from a strong Nissan engine in '02 to a weak Chevrolet in '03.

Prediction: Rice begins the season with Rahal. Brack is hoping to return for Indy, but Rice will be in the car up until at least that point.
