DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Scott Sharp drew the pole for Friday's International Race of Champions event, and sprint car champ Danny Lasoski will start second in his first career race on pavement.

The 12 drivers reached into a tool box Wednesday to pull out a miniature replica of the car they'll be driving, then chose an envelope to find out their starting spot.

Two-time Daytona 500 winner Sterling Marlin drew the third spot and will start inside of defending Indy 500 champ Helio Castroneves, an IROC rookie.

Busch Series champion and Winston Cup Rookie of the Year Kevin Harvick and two-time IROC champ Al Unser Jr. make up row 3, in front of former IRL champion Buddy Lazier and defending IROC champion Bobby Labonte.

"I don't know how long I will last up there before I get shuffled out by the NASCAR drivers," said Sharp, last year's Indy 500 pole-winner who will be making his first IROC appearance since 1994. "One thing for sure is that I'm going to learn a ton."

Lasoski drives in the World of Outlaws for a team owned by Winston Cup star Tony Stewart, also an IROC competitor. They raced against each other on dirt last season in a private test session, and Lasoski got the better of his boss.

He's expecting some payback Friday.

"Everyone who knows Tony knows there's been a lot of trash talking," Lasoski said. "He thinks he's going to get even."

Stewart starts 10th, next to three-time Daytona 500 winner Dale Jarrett.

"I'll probably have more fun with the series this year because I'll be able to watch Danny and see the transitions that he's going to have to make," Stewart said.

Jack Sprague, the first NASCAR truck champion invited to the compete, shares the sixth and final row with IRL champ Sam Hornish Jr. in the first of four IROC races this year.
