Comments on NHRA drivers

We spotlighted NHRA drivers Larry Dixon and Darrell Russell. Here are your thoughts on their '02 campaigns and prospects for next season:

I believe that Larry Dixon will only be more difficult to beat next year because Lahaie will have data on all of the tracks with the new tire, I believe he will be able to dial in a more finesse handle on his tuneup, especially on the hot tracks. Also, Dixon's driving the best he has in his career and is doing a great job. I believe he will be a little more relaxed now that he has his first title behind him. His crew seems to make few if any mistakes.

Six years ago, without knowing the drivers or much about the sport, I attended my first drag race in Pomona, Calif. To get the most enjoyment out of the season, I knew then that I would have to pick a driver/team to root for. Larry Dixon and the Miller Lite Snake Racing Team was and continues to be my choice. Since then I have become an avid race fan. For the last two years I have attended six national events. If I don't go to the the races I watched it on ESPN. This year I didn't miss a race. With Dixon winning the championship, it made my year. I though last year was great with Dixon winning the Bud Shootout and finishing second. But last year pales to the achievements of this year. With Kenny Bernstein's comeback in the points, that had to make this season one of the best ever.

Larry Dixon is the very best. He will prevail! This is only the beginning of a fabulous new Dixon/Snake/Lahaie era! We fans love it!

Being a native of Texas and growing up 25 miles from Darrell's home in Hockley certainly has made me a bit partial to this NHRA "wunderkind." Watching the Russell family's involvement in Div. 4 racing has been awesome. Darrell has shown over and over that he can rise to any situation and win if Wayne Dupuy gives him the combination on Sunday. I look for a TF championship from this team within three years. (Or I look for someone to hire Darrell away if the championship doesn't materialize in a reasonable amount of time.)

Go Larry go!
