Tuesday, December 24 Updated: January 3, 3:17 PM ET Comments on NHRA drivers ESPN.com We spotlighted NHRA drivers Tony Schumacher and Doug Kalitta. Here are your thoughts on their '02 campaigns and prospects for next season:
Having Wes Cerny on board with a big budget with which to utilize his skills, Tony should be battling the beer wagon boys for the 2003 NHRA PowerAde championship. Dave Riddle Granger, Ind.
Tony needs to run in the 4.50s. Last year he never really did that like Dixon and Bernstein did all the time, so if he could get back to that he has a real shot of winning. If not, it's Miller time again. Jim Cain Angola, Ind.
I know Tony can do it! He was a little preoccupied by his adorable son but you watch 2003 -- go Tony! Got to love him as much as John Force! Gail C. Penny Las Vegas
Doug Kalitta had a good year and could be in position to challenge for a title in 2003 -- but only if Larry Dixon struggles. It was a Dixon-Bernstein battle in '02, and as long as Dixon finds any consistency in 2003, other competitors will be hard-pressed to beat him -- including Kalitta. But a second- or third-place overall finish wouldn't be out of the question for the Kalitta bunch. And they'll need to run that well in order to stay in position to take advantage of any Dixon mistakes. Andy Hubbs Burbank, Calif.
Doug Kalitta and his crew still aren't quite championship caliber. I think they'll have to settle for another strong effort in 2003, but they won't challenge Larry Dixon for the Top Fuel crown. Kalitta just wasn't consistent enough to truly contend for a title in the NHRA. At least not yet. Jacob Myers Sarasota, Fla. |
