Comments on NHRA drivers

We spotlightied NHRA drivers Cory McClenathan and John Force. Here are your thoughts on their '02 campaigns and prospects for next season:

John Force will continue to lead the class with Tony Pedregon chasing him all season. This could be the year that Tony has been waiting for where he beats the boss to capture the prize.

Malcolm Tuck
Bowling Green, Ky.

Ya gotta love the guy. Other drivers will say something derogatory and John will just brush it off or turn around and pay the guy a compliment instead of bad mouthing him back. True professional. As for this year, Funny Car is getting to be like Pro Stock -- anybody can win.

Bob Farrell
Sarasota Fla.

John Force -- the guy is a monster. Sure, his driving ability alone has kept him at the top for so many years. But with the resources he has, he could win another six or seven titles if he continues to race for another ten years.

Darby Tarvin
Gary, Ind.

Cory is one of the most talented drivers ever in the NHRA. I would be amazed to see what Cory could do without the sponsorship concerns that have hampered his efforts recently. With the right money, a NHRA Top Fuel championship is an attainable goal.

James W. Powers
Huntington Beach, Calif.

After what Cory Mac and his crew did last year, it's a shame they probably won't be able to do it again. If that team would stay intact, they may have had the best shot at knocking Larry Dixon off the Top Fuel throne. I hope Cory Mac can find a good team with top-notch equipment. If he can, then Dixon should watch out.

Bryan Thomas
Vancouver, Wash.

Cory Mac did a great job of shaking off the rust last season. If the same team comes back and gets the funding it needs, they could easily finish in the top five again and might even challenge for second. A championship seems a little out of reach at this point, though.

Ft. Worth, Texas
