2002 recap
The good: Had a spectacular start to the season with seven wins out of the first 12 races. Although he cooled off in the second half, was never really in danger of losing the points lead.

  • Season highlight: Won his first career championship after finishing second to Kenny Bernstein in 2001 and a third place points finish in 2000.

    Larry Dixon
Dixon won nine events in 2002.

The bad: Failed to qualify at the Sears Craftsman Nationals in Madison, Ill., and saw Kenny Bernstein win the race for the first time in his career.

  • Season lowlight: Lost in the first round in Houston to rookie Mitch King, his first opening-round loss since the fall race in Houston in October, 2000.

Key stat: Lost in the first round only three times all season, lowest number in the class.

    2003 outlook
What needs to be done: Nothing significant compared to the change in crew that took place heading into the 2002 season.

Prediction:With Bernstein's retirement, Dixon is unquestionably the strongest driver with the best tuner, Dick Lahaie, in the class. A favorite to repeat.
