McGrath welcomes week off
By Jeremy McGrath
Special to ESPN.com

Another great race this past weekend in Indianapolis. The fans were awesome once again. For the third week in a row, Ricky Carmichael finished first and I came in second.

RC took the holeshot, and I got stuck behind Tim Ferry. There was nowhere to pass Ferry for a long time, and when I finally did I couldn't even see RC. The course turned into a one-line track as the night went on, and the dirt was pretty rutty, but I expected that, and all in all it was a pretty easy track.

To top it all off in Indy, my whole team and I came down with strep throat ... I couldn't think of a better time for a week off. In fact, this is the first week that I will have off in about four months. That is because, before the season even starts, I have my personal trainer move in with me for an intense two month training session. It's tough, but it has been a huge part of my success.

Right now, the start is a huge part of the outcome of the race. With the way RC is riding right now, he is tough to catch after he takes an early lead. Again, I love the competition and I can't wait to get to Atlanta to try to get back on top. RC had another flawless race, and I have to give him props.

Am I worried? Not at all. I am only down by six points and we still have ten races to go. Skip (Team Mazda Yamaha mechanic) is doing an awesome job and my bike is running great. With the support of my team and Mazda, all I have to do is continue to go out and ride hard. Ten races ... that is 200 more laps of exciting Supercross!

This week I will train for about half of the week and let my body rest for the other half. I will enjoy my time off, but I am also really looking forward to Atlanta. It is always a great track. The dirt is that red Georgia clay ... it is a little bit more sticky and wet than I have seen in the previous races this year, but it's not like it's the first time I have raced on it.

The competition has been so good this year, I just can't wait to get out there and try to notch another victory for Team Mazda Yamaha.

Seven-time Supercross champion Jeremy McGrath will be providing a weekly diary for ESPN.com.
