Friday, March 16 McGrath: 'Don't count me out' By Jeremy McGrath Special to ESPN.com Last week's race at Daytona International Speedway was a tough one for me. I finished sixth, my lowest finish on the year. Ricky Carmichael finished first again, and continues to race great. I had a bad start, got stuck behind a few people, and just couldn't fight all the way back. RC pulled the holeshot again, and it is really difficult to come back on him this year when he gets an early lead. The fact that he was racing in his hometown with his fans behind him didn't help matters. This one hurt, because it dropped me in the points so far. I need to start winning now, and I can't get bad starts to do that. The start is the most important part of the race right now. The only way I am going to force RC to slip is to get him to start pressing so he will make a mistake. I need be breathing down his neck on every turn of every race. He needs to know I am there and ready to take over that lead as soon he makes the slightest slip. Most importantly, I just need to start racing the way I know that I can. RC is racing awesome, but I need to step it up on my end and eliminate my bad starts and mistakes. Don't count Team Mazda Yamaha out, we are still fighting and we won't quit. Seven-time Supercross champion Jeremy McGrath will be providing a weekly diary for ESPN.com. Send this story to a friend | Most sent stories
